Getting from Incheon Airport to Seoul is easier than it looks, but picking the wrong option can waste time or money.

That said, I’ve had the express train sell out and ended up taking the all-stop version instead.

I still arrived just 10 minutes later. No real downside other than the train gets more and more busy the closer you get to Seoul.

1. AREX Train: The Most Popular Way to Get to Seoul

The AREX line connects Incheon Airport directly to Seoul Station: an all-stop commuter train and a faster express.

Both get you to the city center in roughly an hour, but they work quite differently.

AREX All-Stop Train

The all-stop train is the budget option. It makes several stops along the way, including Gimpo Airport, Hongik University, and Seoul Station.

No reservation is needed. You can pay with a T-money card, making it the easiest option if you already have one.

The main trade-off is luggage space. Storage is limited to two designated cars, and announcements remind passengers not to block seats with bags.

The AREX All-Stop train from Incheon airport to Seoul Station

I’ve managed fine with small luggage sitting in front of my knees.

You’ll also see travelers with bags of all sizes on board.

If you have a large suitcase, just be prepared to keep it in front of you.

It’s also a solid backup if the Express is sold out, which it often is.

AREX Express Train

The Express offers reserved seating and dedicated luggage storage and is much more comfortable if you’re traveling with bigger bags or just don’t want to stand for an hour.

Note that T-money cards are not valid on the Express. You’ll need to buy a separate ticket.

Tickets sell out quickly, especially during peak travel periods, so reserving online in advance is the move.

Departures run every 30–40 minutes, and you choose your time when buying.

You can also buy at Level B1 in Terminal 1 or 2 at the Express Train Information Center or kiosk.

Give yourself at least an hour after landing to clear immigration before heading to the train.

2. Airport Limousine Bus from Incheon Airport: Best for Hotels Away from Seoul Station

If your accommodation isn’t near a subway line, the Airport Limousine Bus is worth considering.

I’ve taken it to the airport and it’s a genuinely comfortable ride, especially with luggage.

It serves destinations all over Seoul including Gangnam, Myeongdong, and specific hotels.

The journey takes 60–90 minutes, depending on traffic.

The Airport Limousine Bus

Tickets are 17,000₩ and can be bought at indoor or outdoor kiosks.

In Terminal 1, indoor kiosks are near gates 4 and 9 on the 1st floor (open 6:00 AM–10:00 PM).

Outdoor kiosks run along the 1st floor at gates 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, and 13 — the gate 8 kiosk stays open until 10:40 PM.

Your ticket will show you where to catch the bus, which is usually right next to the kiosks.

When in doubt, show your ticket to any bus driver. Stops are announced in Korean and English.

I’d recommend having Naver Maps open so you can follow along.

Buses start from around 5:00 AM, with last services ranging from around 10:00 PM, depending on the route.

Departures run every 10–15 minutes throughout the day. Each passenger is allowed one carry-on and one suitcase.

KAL Limousine Buses

Operated by Korean Air, KAL Limousine Buses are a premium option that runs well into the night, which is useful if you’re arriving on a late flight.

Tickets are 18,000₩ for adults and 12,000₩ for children, available at the T1 kiosk or ticket office near gate 4.

You can also pay with a credit card or T-Money card at the terminal inside the bus.

Airport Limousine bus from Incheon airport

Buses depart every 25–35 minutes and serve key areas including Gangnam, Myeongdong, and Dongdaemun. Board at Level 1, bus stops 3B and 4A outside Gate 4.

If you’re arriving late at night when trains have stopped running, the KAL Limousine Bus can be a useful option.

3. Taxi: Best for Late Nights, Big Groups, or Heavy Luggage

Taxis run 24/7 and go directly to your accommodation with no stops, no dragging luggage through transfer points.

The downside is cost and traffic.

Fares from Incheon to central Seoul generally start around 80,000₩ and can vary depending on traffic and time of day.

Traffic can add significant time during rush hour.

Taxi stands are in the arrivals hall of both Terminal 1 and 2, with attendants to help you pick the right type.

Standard and International Taxis

Standard taxis are the most affordable.

International taxis work the same way but the driver speaks English, Japanese, or Chinese which is genuinely useful if you’re not confident navigating by phone.

The T1 stand is at gates 5C, 6C, and 6D for regular taxis; gate 4C for international taxis.

FAQ

How far is Incheon Airport from Seoul Station?

About 60km (37 miles).

How long does it take to get from Incheon Airport to Seoul?

The AREX Express takes 43–51 minutes to Seoul Station depending on your terminal. Buses take 60–90 minutes; taxis vary with traffic.

What is the cheapest way to get from Incheon Airport to Seoul?

The AREX All-Stop Train at around ₩4,750 is the most budget-friendly option. It takes a little longer than the Express, but it’s clean, reliable, and gets you to Seoul Station with stops along the way.

Can I use a T-money card to get from Incheon Airport to Seoul?

Yes, but only on the AREX All-Stop Train and airport buses. The AREX Express requires a separate ticket. T-money is not valid on that service.

Is the AREX Express worth it over the all-stop train?

Usually, yes, but it’s not a dealbreaker if you can’t get one. The Express is faster (43–51 minutes vs. around 66), has reserved seating, and proper luggage storage, which makes a real difference after a long flight. That said, on one trip I couldn’t get a ticket and took the all-stop instead. I arrived just 10 minutes later than I would have on the Express. If the Express is sold out, don’t stress. The all-stop gets you there.

Can I get to Seoul from Incheon Airport late at night?

Yes, but your options narrow once the last trains stop running. The AREX Express usually finishes earlier in the evening, while the all-stop AREX train typically runs until around midnight. After the trains stop, airport buses like the KAL Limousine Bus may still be operating depending on the route, and taxis run 24/7.
If you’re arriving very late, it’s worth planning ahead. I put together a full guide on getting from Incheon Airport to Seoul after midnight with everything you need to know.

The Wrap-Up

All three options are reliable depending on your situation.

The AREX Express is my go-to for speed and predictability.

The Limousine Bus is worth it if your hotel is far from Seoul Station.

And a taxi makes the most sense when you’re arriving late, traveling with a group, or just want a direct ride to the door without thinking about anything else.
